The Picker Family

Family Portraits

Date | June 10, 2010

Shooting Location | Perdido Key, Florida

Equipment | Canon 5D Mark II, 70-200mm f/4L IS,
24-70mm f/2.8L

Notes | While on a family vacation with the pickers, we decided to spend one evening on the beach taking some photos a little before sunset. Caleb and Josiah had a blast wrestling around in the sand and the surf and the warm glow of the setting sun added some great color to these shots!

Sherri, John, and Presley

Family Portraits

Date | April 17, 2010

Shooting Location | Conway, AR

Equipment | Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 50D
70-200mm f/4L IS, 24-70mm f/2.8L

Notes | The Thomas family lives right across the street from an orchard, which provided an excellent backdrop for photographing their family. It was my first shoot with my brand new 5D Mark II and 24-70mm lens, and both were a joy to use. Having two cameras with lenses ready allowed me to quickly switch between wide-angle and long zoom shots, which is always handy when there's a two year old running around!

Chris and Carissa

Wedding Portraits

Date | September 6, 2009

Shooting Location | Ozark, MO

Equipment | Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 50D
70-200mm f/2.8, 17-55mm f/2.8

Notes | Chris and Carissa picked out a beautiful location to have their outdoor wedding, and the evergreens and glow of the setting sun provided excellent lighting and background for their wedding photos. Carissa wanted to stay away from much of the posed, traditional shots, and instead asked that Emily and I capture the action as it happened naturally, from the sidelines, resulting in some great candid photos of the whole event.

Blake, Courtney, and Lily

Family Portraits

Date | November 15, 2009

Shooting Location | Searcy, AR

Equipment | Canon 50D, 70-200mm f/4, 17-55mm f/2.8

Notes | This was my first time to do family portraits, so I wasn't sure how challenging it would be when a toddler is thrown in to the mix--but Lily did a great job! Thankfully, Emily had a few tricks up her sleeve to help keep Lily's attention--which allowed me to just focus on getting the shots. We shot just before sunset in two locations: downtown Searcy, and then a few miles west on their family's land--and the rare golden November lighting was absolutely gorgeous!

Liz and Rusty

Wedding Portraits

Date | July 18, 2009

Shooting Location | Harding University - Searcy, AR

Equipment | Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 50D
70-200mm f/2.8, 17-55mm f/2.8

Notes | Liz and Rusty were married in Harding's recently built wedding chapel, which was a great location for their big day. This was my first wedding using the new 5D Mk II, and it handled beautifully, capturing virtually noise-free images even in relatively low light. It was also the first time for Em to help me out with the shoot, and not only was she a huge help with the second camera body, she also got some really great shots!

Jason and Brittney

Wedding Portraits

Date | April 4, 2009

Shooting Location | Brentwood Hills, Brentwood, TN

Equipment | Canon 50D, 70-200mm f/2.8, 17-55mm f/2.8

Notes | With one wedding shoot under my belt, I was much more comfortable going into this one. The auditorium was wide open and well lit, which allowed me to move throughout the ceremony and use the 200mm end of my telephoto to really capture the action. Although wedding photography can be stressful, I couldn't have asked for an easier (and more beautiful) couple to shoot!

Brandon and Keely

Wedding Portraits

Date | January 2, 2009

Shooting Location | Anthony Chapel at Garvan Gardens

Equipment | Canon 50D, 70-200mm f/2.8, 17-55mm f/2.8

Notes | My first wedding shoot took place inside the stunning glass chapel at Garvan Gardens in Hot Springs. The f/2.8 telephoto zoom worked perfectly inside the dimly lit interior, allowing me to forget about the lighting and focus entirely on capturing the beautiful couple.

Jason and Brittney

Engagement Portraits

Date | January 2, 2009

Shooting Location | Garvan Gardens (Hot Springs, AR)

Equipment | Canon 50D, 70-200mm f/2.8, 17-55mm f/2.8

Notes | The trees, streams, stone walkways, and glass chapel at Garvan Gardens created a perfect setting for Jason and Brittney's engagement portraits. The wide aperture of the f/2.8 telephoto zoom produced the beautiful, blurry backgrounds--allowing the couple to really stand out.

Brandon and Keely

Engagement Portraits

Date | November 8, 2008

Shooting Location | Camp Tahkodah (Floral, AR)

Equipment | Canon 50D, 70-200mm f/4.0L IS

Notes | The fall foliage at Camp Tahkodah in early November provided an excellent backdrop for Brandon and Keely's engagement portraits. These shots were taken less than an hour before sunset, which yielded a beautiful orange glow as the fleeting sunlight peeked through the trees.
